COVID Defense is a smartphone app that uses Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology to quickly notify users who have likely been exposed so you can reduce the risk of infection for your friends and family and help Louisiana stop the spread.
The app doesn’t collect personal information or track your location, but functions as an anonymous detector for potential exposures to COVID-19.
iPhone users with iOS 13.7 or later will receive exposure notifications without an app. Learn more.
Mike and Missy don’t know each other, but they’re at the same gathering and have a conversation sitting a few feet apart.
Their phones exchange anonymous identifier beacons (which change constantly).
After receiving a positive test, Mike gets a verification code from the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH). Mike enters the code into the app, and gives his consent to anonymously share his keys.
Mike enters his test results to the app, and gives his consent to anonymously share his keys.
Missy continues her week unaware that she may have been around a contagious person.
Suddenly, Missy sees a notification on her phone. She’s been around someone who tested positive.
Missy opens her app to a notification with instructions on what to do next. If Missy wants to talk with a LDH support team member, she can request a callback.
Additional information is provided through the app by local health authorities.
Missy gets a COVID test and watches for symptoms. To be safe, Missy changes her plan to visit family and chooses to video call them instead.
Missy can still see her family using a video call without putting them at risk of infection.
